Dusk and Summer, Liberation Transmission

28Jun06 | album review, music, personal | No Comments »

Two of my favorite bands release brand new albums on the same day! How cool is that. Dashboard Confessional’s “Dusk and Summer”, and Lostprophets “Liberation Transmission” were rocking my iTunes yesterday. Now that my ear drums have stopped ringing and I have given each album a good listening to, I will tell ya what I think.

I blogged earlier about the release of Dashboard Confessional’s Dusk and Summer, and even though I had listened to the album on MTV’s the leak before purchasing the album (yes I bought it), I was still stoked to have it in my hand (or at least on my computer). I personally think this album is slightly heavier than “A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar” (which was also all electric). The only “acoustic” song on this album is the title track, but it still features some electric guitar in the background. Another great album from Chris and the boys, which will probably open the eyes of some new fans that initially wrote Dashboard off because of the emotional acoustic albums Chris put out in Dashboards infancy. If you liked the acoustic stuff (like me) then this album is no different, it’s just plugged in!

Now onto Losprophets; a band from south Wales that I probably haven’t mentioned too much on my blog, but have been listening to for a couple years now. I first got into them after purchasing their previous album “Start Something” for the song “Last Train Home” and have been hooked ever since. “Liberation Transmission” is a good album, but I think they may be trying to cash in on the “Last Train Home” type song success by writing mostly pop songs and nothing really over the top as they did on “Start Something”. Don’t get me wrong, this album is worth buying, but if you’re looking for songs like “We are Godzilla, You are Japan” or “We Still Kill the Old Way”, they are not on this album.

In conclusion these albums are both worthy of a listen and even a purchase, so blow the dust of your iTunes accounts and pick em up!

And speaking of brand new music……. another favorite band on mine “Brand New” has started the final mixing of their long awaited new album, which is supposed to drop later this year (no official date yet)….. Stay tuned!

For My Listening Pleasure

I haven’t done a “CD of the week” entry in a while, so I figured I would list what new bands or albums I am currently listening to.

Damien Rice
Why the hell I didn’t start listening to this guy before I will never know. Awesome, awesome, awesome laid back easy listening acoustic music. Technically classified “Irish Folk”, which 5 years ago I probably wouldn’t have listened to, but for some reason I really like his music. Check out the album “O”. artist website

Snow Patrol
I purchased their album “Final Straw” because I liked the song “run”, so when Snow Patrol released their latest album “Eyes Open”, I decided to pick it up. These guys have a pretty unique sound, but I would say if you like Coldplay, U2, or Death Cab For Cutie then you would most likely like Snow Patrol. artist website

Neil Young - “Living With War”

Gravy hooked me up with this, so I figured I would share it with all 4 or 5 of my readers. Neil Young has a new album out called “Living With War”. If you are interested you can listen to the whole album here

You can also get to it from his site, but I believe Gravy said it was pretty flooded with users.

Curious George Soundtrack

Jack Johnson - Sing-a-longs and lullabies from the film Curious George

Well now that I consider myself a huge Jack Johnson fan (thanks Gravy), I decided to pick up Jack’s latest musical endeavor “Sing-a-longs and lullabies for the film Curious George”. Now I was kind of reluctant to pick this album up, because it is obviously aimed and kids, and even comes with a coloring book, but I read some reviews and seemed worth checking out. The album is pretty good, I think both adults and children will like it. Some songs are a little too cute for me, but it is still Jack Johnson. This is an album you can put on and listen to the whole thing non stop, and just relax. I can’t give it two devils horns up, but I like it!

Sevendust - Next

sevendust
The guys from Sevendust are back at it with their new release cleverly entitled “Next”. I got a chance to see Sevendust last year and they put on a great show. I highly recommend this album as well as all their past albums! Check them out!
