Two of my favorite bands release brand new albums on the same day! How cool is that. Dashboard Confessional’s “Dusk and Summer”, and Lostprophets “Liberation Transmission” were rocking my iTunes yesterday. Now that my ear drums have stopped ringing and I have given each album a good listening to, I will tell ya what I think.

I blogged earlier about the release of Dashboard Confessional’s Dusk and Summer, and even though I had listened to the album on MTV’s the leak before purchasing the album (yes I bought it), I was still stoked to have it in my hand (or at least on my computer). I personally think this album is slightly heavier than “A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar” (which was also all electric). The only “acoustic” song on this album is the title track, but it still features some electric guitar in the background. Another great album from Chris and the boys, which will probably open the eyes of some new fans that initially wrote Dashboard off because of the emotional acoustic albums Chris put out in Dashboards infancy. If you liked the acoustic stuff (like me) then this album is no different, it’s just plugged in!

Now onto Losprophets; a band from south Wales that I probably haven’t mentioned too much on my blog, but have been listening to for a couple years now. I first got into them after purchasing their previous album “Start Something” for the song “Last Train Home” and have been hooked ever since. “Liberation Transmission” is a good album, but I think they may be trying to cash in on the “Last Train Home” type song success by writing mostly pop songs and nothing really over the top as they did on “Start Something”. Don’t get me wrong, this album is worth buying, but if you’re looking for songs like “We are Godzilla, You are Japan” or “We Still Kill the Old Way”, they are not on this album.
In conclusion these albums are both worthy of a listen and even a purchase, so blow the dust of your iTunes accounts and pick em up!
And speaking of brand new music……. another favorite band on mine “Brand New” has started the final mixing of their long awaited new album, which is supposed to drop later this year (no official date yet)….. Stay tuned!

Saturday I became the proud owner of a new Martin DCX1E acoustic guitar. Ever since I started playing guitar 13 years ago, I have been jonesing for a Martin acoustic guitar. Saturday Sweens and I took a trip over to the local Guitar Center and played just about every high-end acoustic guitar they had in the place, including Martins, Taylor’s, and Gibsons some reaching the $3,000-$4,000 price range!!
I had done some research on this model guitar but had never played one before, and to make a long story short, once I picked this bad boy up I knew I had to have it. Although not as expensive as some of the guitars I played, I thought it sounded and played the best (which is good for me because I can’t afford a $3,000 guitar!). And for all you wondering this makes guitar #7 for me (yeah I know I’m not right)!

I haven’t done a “CD of the week” entry in a while, so I figured I would list what new bands or albums I am currently listening to.
Damien Rice
Why the hell I didn’t start listening to this guy before I will never know. Awesome, awesome, awesome laid back easy listening acoustic music. Technically classified “Irish Folk”, which 5 years ago I probably wouldn’t have listened to, but for some reason I really like his music. Check out the album “O”. artist website
Snow Patrol
I purchased their album “Final Straw” because I liked the song “run”, so when Snow Patrol released their latest album “Eyes Open”, I decided to pick it up. These guys have a pretty unique sound, but I would say if you like Coldplay, U2, or Death Cab For Cutie then you would most likely like Snow Patrol. artist website

Well after some thinking, some talking, some more thinking, some beer, and then some more thinking, I have decided that I want am going to release a CD. I say that like it’s as easy as changing your underwear, but I really think that I can do it on a reasonable scale. Now to most of my friends this is probably nothing new, but I figured that if I blog about it I may have more ambition to actually finish it. I have not always had the greatest confidence in my singing/songwriting, but I have decided to give it shot. After talking with Sweens, we came up with a “game plan” of sorts, and a direction to head in. The writing and recording part is not what I am worried about, however I know absolutely nothing about the actual “I’m going to call this a CD and sell it to people” part of things, so I am going to have to do my homework! I know it is not an easy or inexpensive process! (more…)
