Back to school !

Myself at Alfred State

Well I have decided to give school another shot and obtain my bachelors. I am not however, going back for mechanical engineering. I am enrolled in the Art Institute Of Pittsburgh’s Interactive Media Design bachelors program. Going thru all this enrollment / application process is a royal pita (pain in the ass) but I hope to start in mid February. I got to thinking today about my days down in Alfred State, where I earned my associates. I thought of my 5 roommates and the row house that we shared/trashed. We used to do the dumbest things back then, it’s hard to believe we all graduated and are still alive. I remember one day it snowed really bad, so we had a snow day (which down there means, lets go get beer as soon as the store opens). After a good couple hours of partaking in our favorite drinks of choice 2 of my roommates decided to make a sled out of 2 desk chairs (with ski like bottoms) and two mops. Now keep in mind that we were all going to school for engineering, so we could do this type of thing. All you children reading this at home, do not, I repeat do not attempt this. So with the two chairs back-to-back and some duct tape and the mop handles holding our homemade bobsled together we set off to the highest hill we could find. If you have ever been to Alfred then you know hills are not hard to find. We found a nice size hill right outside our door to try our new creation out. The first attempt down the hill was unsuccessful. The chairs were just not sliding in the snow the way we thought they would (must be the coefficient of friction or something). So here is where the beer logic kicks in. One of my roommates decides that it would be a great idea to take the sled down the flights of stairs that were also on this hill. What a great idea! Keep in mind that this was about 3 flights of stairs separated with landings every 15 steps or so…..straight down, with railings on each side. I forget which two roommates actually went down the stairs but I can assure you it wasn’t me! Needless to say the sled did not stay in one piece the whole way down and upon sled destruction, bodies where sent everywhere. It was one of the highlights of my two year sentence at Alfred State College. I will never forget that snow day! And yes that photo above is of yours truly.

The Original 30 Stones Site!

Jimmy sent this to me a while ago and I have been meaning to put it on the site. This goes back a few years to a cover band I was in called “30 Stones”. We needed a site so Jimmy built one for us (although I think we paid him with beer, or maybe not at all…..). Seeing the site does bring back some memories, and should get some laughs from the guys……deffany!

I took a few shots to test out the camera. Don’t mind the closeups of flowers and stuff lol, I was just testing different modes. I need to read the manual and get up to speed with all of the things it can do. But for now, here are the first photos! And you can bet your ass there will be plenty more to come.

iPod killed the mix cd!

Since I bought my first iPod 3 years ago, I have bought maybe 5 cds, and maybe played a cd in my car stereo twice……..no lie! All of my music purchasing is handled online. I took some time this weekend, when I was at my parents to go through all my old cds and see what I have (they want to turn my room into a “guest room”). It took me a good 3 hours, but I think I have a pretty good inventory of what I have. You’re probably wondering why I’m doing this lol, but there are numerous online sites that will buy back used cds. So I figure if I could get at least 2-3$/cd, I could make a grand real easy with just the number of cds I own. All of my cds are stored on my computer, so I don’t need the hard copies taking up space anymore. While digging through all the cds I found about 50 different mix cds that I have made over the past 4 or 5 years, and surprisingly enough I dated most of the cds. The mix cds were made from songs that I downloaded from places like Napster and Kazaa (that I don’t have hard copies of). I figured instead of throwing them out, I would listen to each one and weed out what I didn’t want anymore and what I want to keep. So I put the first cd in and gave her a listen. Long story short, I cannot believe some of the stuff that I used to listen to! I am not going to even get into the mass amounts of lame 80’s power ballads, and 80’s pop that I found….. Needless to say I ended up tossing about 2/3rds of my mix cds, and kept the rest just for one or two songs on each one. With the advent of the iPod I see myself never making another mix cd or tape again, which kind of sucks because in 10 years I won’t be able to look back and have such a snapshot of my musical tastes for a certain time period, like I was able to do today. Don’t get me wrong, I think the iPod is the greatest thing since canned beer, but I will miss my precious mix cds!
