Goodbye Movabletype… Hello Wordpress

30Nov05 | geek, movabletype, wordpress | No Comments »

brettdriscoll.com is now powered by Wordpress. I decided to change blogging platforms after being with Movabletype for almost a year. Reasons for switching are :

  • Wordpress is totally Open source (meaning its totally free for one, and its built and modded by everyday web geeks like myself)
  • You don’t have to rebuild the website everytime you make a change like you do in movabletype
  • Wordpress allows you to switch themes on the fly in a matter of seconds
  • There are more themes for Wordpress

Those are just some of the reasons for my sudden switch to Wordpress. I still run a few sites that are powered by Movabletype, and still feel Movabletype is a great blogging tool, but for my personal blog I feel Wordpress suits me better. All of my old posts from brettdriscoll.com movabletype version have been imported into Wordpress (which was actually quite painless). I have been going through the categories and trying to layout a better category system to make it easier for you the user to find old posts. Over the next week or so, the site will be changing or evolving rapidly into what I hope to be a better brettdriscoll.com. For now though you will have to look at a tweaked version of the default Wordpress theme, until I can find or create one that I like.

Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. My old site is still 100% viewable by clicking here

Ryan just started his own blog over at grahamgravy.com. If you know Ryan then you know he is a pretty interesting fella and has some interesting views on things. I think he has set the single day post record with 5 on his first day! You need to pace yourself Ryan!
Anyways enough of my rambling…….Climb aboard the gravytrain and check him out already!
And lets just hope that Rodney and Bruce don’t find the site………Deffany!

I think this is going to hurt me more than it does Cru, but my little man is going under the knife Friday morning to have his manhood (testicles) removed. I have been putting it off for quite sometime, but now it’s time. I am hoping this will calm him down!

For all you pet owners out there, here are some good reasons to have your pet neutered.

Why You Should Spay Or Neuter Your Pet

Update
Cru is back home and doing fine. After a day of rest he is back to his normal crazy self!

Ok if you hang around my site enough you will notice some pretty lame songs show up in Now Playing. Now Playing is an up to the minute feature that lets you see what Im listening to in iTunes (in case you didn’t know). I always try and make sure the last song I listen to before leaving work isn’t entirely gay, so you guys don’t think I’m a fairy or something (like as I’m typing this I am listening to Firehouse………WTF). Out of my top 50 most played songs in iTunes only 3 show up that I consider lame 80’s songs and they are:

  • Corey Hart - Never Surrender
  • Cutting Crew - (I just) Died in your arms tonight
  • The Outfield - Your Love

and yes that is the correct name for the Outfield tune………not “Josie’s on a vacation far away”

When I was growing up I had to listen to bands like Mr Mister, Aha, Johnny Hates Jazz, and Glass Tiger……yes I said Glass Tiger. So everytime I hear a song like that on the radio I have to find it and download it. I probably have the most comprehensive lame 80’s mp3 collection on earth! So when Rhino records put out CD’s like Love Bites, Moster Ballads and other shit like that, you bet I had to have it. So in closing if you see “Drive” by the Cars show up in Now Playing you will know that I’m just getting my fix of lame 80’s songs for the day…..but don’t worry, some Maiden, Ozzy, or Black Label is not far behind! Feel free to comment and leave some of your favorite lame songs of the 80’s so I don’t feel so bad!
